5 Turn off the lights and watch it glow!
The Sci Behind the DIY
What puts the “glow” in glow-in-the-dark? Luminescence, which is an object’s ability to give off visible light. For glow-in-the-dark paints, a specific type of luminescence is at work called phosphorescence. It gets its name because it’s made of phosphors. When the lights are on, the paint absorbs light and the phosphorescence is what allows it to emit light for a long period of time after the lights go out.
